Join Friends of Edenton Historical Commission
We all share pride in claiming Edenton as "the South's prettiest small town” …
yet we can’t take Edenton’s picturesque grace for granted.
Preserving and celebrating our unique colonial history takes time, attention, and money. For decades, Edenton Historical Commission and our Friends have saved significant historic buildings through our fundraising and preservation efforts.
The Commission arranges public-private partnerships that drive historic preservation efforts. We undertake projects that would be too complex for the local government and too small for the state government.
• This year, with a State grant, we secured another historical treasure -- the 1886 Roanoke River Lighthouse. Your contribution will help protect this unique landmark on Edenton Bay and open it to visitors.
• The Commission leads the way to save endangered artifacts of North Carolina’s history. In 2001 the St. Paul Bell Battery Cannon returned; in 2006 we brought home the cannon made from the 1767 Courthouse bell.
• Your support helps maintain the Barker House, hosting more than 26,000 visitors making a positive economic impact on our community.
• The Commission has hired Becky Winslow as Executive Director, who will promote and expand our initiatives.
If you have been a Friend of the Commission, we thank you and trust that you share great pride in our achievements. We invite everyone to join us!
Please send a generous membership gift today. Your tax-deductible contribution of $100 will open the Barker House for one day… $500 will help protect the Lighthouse… $1000 will help us save additional endangered historic treasures.
